An Interactive Meeting of WASME’s Executive Team was held with Nepal Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NKCCI) officialsat NKCCI premises on February 16, 2016 at Kathmandu, Nepal. The meeting was attended by Mr Gyan Prakash Agarwal, Secretary General, WASME, Ms. Sampa Banerjee, Executive Director, WASME, Ms. Megha Chadha, Coordinator, WASME and Mr. SurendraBirMalakar, President Nepal Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Pushpa Das Shrestha, Vice President, NKCCI&Secretary General, Asian Shooting Confederation, Nepal
The meeting was aimed towards having meaningful discussion on status of SMEs in Nepal and how WASME canhelp in strengthening and developing SMEs in the region through various activities. In Nepal most of the SMEs are family based enterprises involved in processing and manufacturing of food items, consumer and household goods, textiles and related products.
WASME in association with NKCCI will help in accessing various problems and challenges faced by the sector like traditional management practice, lack of entrepreneurial culture, financial difficulties, lack of efficient production process and technology, and poor knowledge and information about business opportunities and marketing.
NKCCI officials were briefed about the multidimensional activities of WASME and how these activities can be instrumental in building effective knowledge base for the SMEs in Nepal.
WASME Executive Team met with officials of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) that promotes business and industry and industrial communities in the country.FNCCI is playing key role in providing information, advisory, consultative, promotional and representative services to business and government of Nepal.

It was highly interactive meeting and various discussions were held to identify the scope of economic development of Nepal post devastating earthquake in 2015. The core discussion was revolved around utilising the renewable energy resources as Nepal is endowed with high potential alternative energy resourceslike hydro, solar, wind, biomass etc but it is not yet able fully utilise it. Presently, only 12 % of population is electrified by alternative energy sources and around 900 thousand households are using clean energy solutions.
WASME based on its extensive expertise and experience proposed to provide knowledge support and technology support in developing renewable energy, supporting and developing SMEs in the energy sector, promote clean energy, technology transferfor enabling Nepal deal and overcome the power crises they are facing and help in the effective socio economic development of Nepal Another important agenda of discussion was promoting local craft especially Fibre Craft. It was shared that WASME will be supporting and catalysing the growth of the Fibre Craft industry and help to raise the skill level of local craftsmen and women in the country, standardized their production methods, and improved product quality through various trainings and workshops. Moreover, WASME will help in establishing market linkages to introduce traditional Nepalese crafts into the regional and international market.
The meeting was concluded with agreement on various activities that can be carried out in collaboration of WASME and FNCCI to create and develop sustainable business environment for micro and small enterprises in these two core sectors.
A Round Table Meeting was held between WASME and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC)on February 17, 2016 afternoon at NCC premises to discuss various opportunities and challenges faced by SMEs in Nepal, especially post destruction by earthquake. The meeting was led by Mr. Rajesh Kazi Shrestha, Former Assistant Minister, Ministry of Industry, Commerce & Supply & President NCC and Executive Team of WASME including Mr Gyan Prakash Agarwal, Secretary General, WASME and Ms. Sampa Banerjee, Executive Director, WASME. The meeting was attended by many key officials from NCC including Mr. Kamlesh Kumar Agarwal, Secretary General, Dr.BhagwanKhadka, Under Secretary, Mr. RajendraMalla, Vice President, Mr. RashtraBhushanChakubaji, Chairman, Trade Fair Committee, Mr. Kailash Kumar Bajimaya, CEO and Ms. Megha Chadha, Coordinator, WASME.
NCC is the first Chamber of Commerce in Nepaland oldest member of WASME that assist in the development of national economy through the promotion and protection of commerce and industries, both at the private and public sector. It has more than 1,600 members and more than 8,000 registered firms.
During the discussion it was identified the need of formulating MSME Act in Nepal. WASME offered to support Nepal government in formulating effective MSME Act that provide robust and sustainable solutions to various challenges faced by SMEs in Nepal.
Ms. Sampa Banerjee, Executive Director, WASME shared the need of integrating innovation and innovation technologies for the effective development of SMEs in Nepal. WASME proposed to offer its knowledge and technical expertise to promote SMEs in Nepal through its various development tools and activities including Trainings and Workshops, awareness programmes, research and development, technology transfer, creating market linkages etc.
